Vegan BBQ Jackfruit Pulled Pork Sandwich

One month before going vegan, the day the Southwest Pulled Pork panini and wrap came out at Tim Hortons, I remember my manager walking around the store allowing us employees to try the new sandwich. This was my first time ever trying a pulled pork sandwich.  I must say, I did enjoy it. The way the cheddar melted over the sautéed peppers and onions, paired with the delicious BBQ sauce. Well, since the flavour was so memorable, two years later I decided to recreate an even more mouthwatering, vegan version.

On a warm spring day two weeks ago, I came across this Upton’s Jackfruit in it’s original sauce. It was on sale so I figured I might aswell try it. I got home and immediately opened it and tasted it and almost vomited, it was definitely NOT what I expected. I thought “Jackfruit in it’s original sauce is DEFINITELY meant to be used as an ingredient rather than eaten alone”. I remembered reading a recipe on Jackfruit Pulled Pork once, so I thought I’d go out and buy BBQ sauce and try and throw a few ingredients together and see what happens. My life is forever changed with this recipe and I encourage everyone to make this. Promise you’ll die of deliciousness!

You will need:

  •  Upton’s Natural Jackfruit- As shown above (OR ANY JACKFRUIT OF CHOICE!)
  • 1/3 Cup Grated Daiya Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 Tbsp BBQ Sauce
  • 2 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Nutritional Yeast
  • Lettuce
  • 1/2 Cup Shredded Purple cabbage
  • Bun or bread for the sandwich
  • Liquid Smoke



Mix the Jackfruit with BBQ Sauce, nutritional yeast, salt, and cheese and microwave for 30 seconds. Stir it up to make sure the cheese is properly melted and then place onto the bun with vegetables!



When I tried this sandwich I almost fell flat on my face, but I know that my taste buds are quite sensitive due to eating high amounts of fruits and vegetables, so I had to ask my 10 year old sister (who enjoys eating chips and candy on the regular). Her response was “IT’S SOOOO GOOD. Tastes so much like pork!”. I had to get a second opinion,  so I asked my dear non-vegan friend Mehdi who you all have seen in my vlogs and he almost fell flat on his bum also. He is currently trying to go vegan, and is encouraging his mom to aswell. He calls over his mom and goes “MOM, YOU GOTTA TRY THIS! It tastes EXACTLY like pork!”.

I certainly hope you all try this amazing recipe because my tongue is still dreaming about the flavour. I hope this sandwich satisfies your guys’ tongues just aswell.
